Ericsson strikes late to win chaotic Indy Markham debut
Marcus Ericsson claimed his first victory of the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season in a chaotic inaugural Indy Markham, becoming the first IndyCar winner at the new circuit following the championship’s move from Toronto. Louis Foster controlled the early stages from pole before a heavy crash ended his afternoon, while six full-course cautions repeatedly changed the running order and opened several strategy options. Romain Grosjean emerged as the late leader, but Ericsson used fresher tyres to charge through the field before passing him for first on Lap 85. The Swede pulled clear to win by 7.620 seconds, with Grosjean securing second. Will Power completed a remarkable recovery from last on the grid to finish third. Álex Palou took fourth after an eventful race, while Pato O’Ward recovered from 23rd and opening-lap contact to complete the top five in a dramatic first IndyCar race at Markham.
